Imphal: The opposition Congress on Sunday strongly opposed the Center’s move to make Hindi compulsory subject in the eight states of the northeast, and termed is as an attempt to wipe out the rich culture and tradition of Manipur.Senior Congress legislator and newly appointed Manipur PCC president K Meghachandra Singh alleged that Manipur’s culture, tradition and different religions would be directly affected if Hindi is made a compulsory school subject. The Congress leader said the demand to insert Meitei script in Indian currency notes would be useless if Hindi is made must in the state. TNN
